Since November 2019, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has worked with IICA to strengthen cooperation for sustainable rural agritourism.

Together, the UNWTO and IICA implement projects that promote capacity-building and training on subjects like destination positioning and branding for rural tourism, project development and diversification and digital skills with the financial support of international donors.

Since June 2021, Seoul National University and IICA join efforts to drive initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean aimed at empowering a green economy.

Actions are focused on sharing skills and good experiences in technology and digitalization with small and medium-scale farmer organizations, as well as driving the analyze of environmental variables using the Internet of Things (IoT) and geospatial analysis methodologies.

Since July 2020, Syngenta, a leader in agricultural innovation, and IICA implement actions aimed at increasing farmer productivity and sustainably and protecting the food security of Latin America and the Caribbean.

They work to validate cutting-edge agricultural technology, develop virtual workshops on digital and precision agriculture and maximum residue limits, improve seeds and other projects that drive the sustainability of food production with a focus on smart soil and water management.

Since June 2020, Precision Development works hand-in-hand with IICA to drive agricultural digitalization in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Efforts are aimed at increasing agricultural production and sustainability in the region by using technology, data science and behavioral economics to provide specific information to farmers to help improve their lives.

Allies since October 2021, PepsiCo and IICA work together to restore the quality of productive soils to guarantee a sustainable, thriving agriculture and the efficient use of natural resources.

Both institutions take part in the Living Soils of the Americas initiative that promotes the use of better agricultural management practices, transfers best practices and technology to farmers and leverages sustainable rural development.

Since September 2021, the Green Climate Fund and the IICA support climate adaptation and resilience initiatives for agriculture and rurality in the countries of the Americas.

Together they support climate mitigation, adaption and resilience projects in the current context of climate change that threatens food production systems and imposes real challenges on guaranteeing food security.

Partners since December 2020, the Center for Carbon Management and Sequestration (C-MASC) and IICA coordinate efforts to fight soil degradation, a phenomenon that undermines the ability of the countries to meet the food demand sustainably.

Together they promote the Living Soils of the Americas initiative to implement better management and technical cooperation techniques in the region to restore soils. The project combines actions by governments, international organizations, universities, the private sector and civil society organizations.

Cenfotec University and IICA work together to provide the agriculture sector with knowledge and technology to make food production more efficient and sustainable.

Efforts are aimed at guaranteeing efficiency, greater productivity, value creation, improved energy management, precision agriculture, precision livestock farming and other innovative applications.

Strategic allies since September 2021, the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) work together to support agriculture’s contributions to economic growth and the sustainable development of the countries of Africa and the Americas; strengthen rural welfare; drive international and regional trade; and increase the resilience of agrifood systems to extreme climate events.

Together, they promote the restoration of soil fertility, the fight again poverty and hunger and the transformation of the agrifood systems.

Since December 2018 the Ministry has joined forces with IICA to promote scientific and technological development, as well as technology transfer and innovation to benefit the agriculture sector in Costa Rica, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Initiatives have focused on the digital transformation of agriculture and on bridging the digital divide to improve the standard of living of vulnerable communities, in addition to boosting productivity, competitiveness and socioeconomic development. One project of note is the establishment in San José of the first Fab Lab specializing in management and technological innovation for the agriculture sector.
