A program promoted by IICA aims to develop professionals who are better trained to promote agricultural development in the Caribbean.

The course was held in three towns in departments classified as priority areas: Jacmel (South-east); Aquin (South); and Vallue (West).

Haiti, June 19, 2015 (IICA). More than 70 members of local organizations involved in rural well-being in Haiti will shortly be better equipped to undertake and implement rural tourism activities, thanks to an initiative designed to strengthen agriculture in the Caribbean countries.

The training falls under the program Capacity building for the development of agriculture in Central America and the Caribbean , promoted by the Mexican Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA), and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).

This initiative is complemented with Haiti’s Master Plan for Tourism Development, in which rural tourism is viewed as one of the strategic priorities for the development of the Caribbean nation.

The course, which runs from June 17-27, is being taught by Roselia Servín and J. Cruz García, two Mexican professors from the Córdoba Campus of the Graduate School (COLPOS),.

The course is being held in three towns in departments classified as priority areas: Jacmel (South-east); Aquin (South); and Vallue (West).

As this activity gets under way in Haiti, the program developed by Mexico is also making progress in other Caribbean nations where similar courses are being held. In Trinidad and Tobago, for example, participants from 13 countries are receiving training in in vitro cloning of tropical plants.
