IICA makes technical contributions in institutional fairs of the agricultural and water sector

Different actors and institutions of the agricultural and water sector came together to present products, knowledge and technologies in support of both sectors

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, March 2019 (IICA). The 2019 National Agricultural Fair, which this year seeks to promote a better use of land, innovation and competitiveness, was held from March 22-30, 2019. Under the philosophy of «we bring the best of the farm to the city», the activity promotes an adequate environment for trade, exchange of experiences, healthy entertainment and skills in different agricultural areas.

Stand

On this occasion, IICA presented an information stand shared with the FAO, under the theme of «United for a more competitive and sustainable agriculture», where participants could visualize the current projects of both institutions, as well as access to materials, guides and documents generated by the institution. Likewise, IICA made a technical contribution by facilitating two lectures with the following topics: New extension model based on participatory cooperation of coffee farmers, and Uses of new technologies in agriculture, presented by the technical staff of the IICA Office in the Dominican Republic.

On the other hand, the First National Water Conference was held from March 21 to 23, under the coordination of the Coordination Board for Water. In the conference, it was also organized the Institutional Fair of Water and Water Expo, with the participation of public and private institutions, non-governmental organizations, international organizations, schools and colleges, universities, among other sectors.

Under the slogan «public-private partnership for water security», this initiative had the aim of strengthening the institutional framework of the water sector, as well as promoting the integral management of the country’s water resources.

IICA made a technical contribution with the conference «Efficient use of water in the agricultural sector – IICA’s experience in Latin America and the Caribbean», by the Specialist in Natural Resources, Agriculture and Climate Change of the IICA Office in the Dominican Republic.
