The Caribbean Community Climate Change Center (CCCCC), represented by Dr. Kenrick Leslie, (PhD), Executive Director, and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture(IICA),  represented by Manuel Otero Justo, Director General have agreed to sign a General Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

On Monday, July 9, 2018, both entities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for technical cooperation. The agreement will run for five years. Signing for the Centre is (from the right) Dr, Kenrick Leslie,  executive director of the CCCCC and for IICA, Dr. Gabriel Rodríguez Marqués, head of Projects Unit, the Belize delegation.

IICA has been the international specialized agency for agriculture of the Inter-American System for 75 years, and its mission is “To encourage, promote and support the efforts of the Member States to achieve their agricultural development and rural welfare by means of international technical cooperation of excellence;”

The CCCCC is mandated to lead the region’s response to managing and adapting to climate change in addition to serving as the main repository for regional and national information on climate change. CCCCC manages its portfolio of responsibilities through its network of national, regional and international collaborating agencies and institutions

CCCCC and IICA recognize the existence of areas of common interest in which joint efforts can contribute to: (i) achieving their respective objectives; (ii) strengthening the ability of IICA’s Caribbean States to address climate change in the agricultural sector; and (iii) supporting the CCCCC’s thrust to mitigate the impact of climate change on the agricultural sector.

The joint, complementary efforts of CCCCC and IICA can contribute more effectively to agricultural and rural development in the Caribbean than could be achieved by the separate and independent actions of CCCCC and IICA.
