Within the framework of this celebration, the IICA Delegation in the Dominican Republic also rendered its Annual Accountability Seminar of the projects and initiatives executed in 2017
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, June 2018 (IICA). With an agenda composed of different activities, the IICA Delegation in the Dominican Republic celebrated 50 years of uninterrupted institutional presence in the country. These 50 years have earned IICA a high level of prestige and a privileged position among stakeholders of the agricultural sector in the Dominican Republic, as the preferred cooperation agency in agricultural development and rural well-being.
To commemorate such an important occasion, the IICA Dominican Republic Delegation offered a Thanksgiving Mass on Tuesday, June 26, where, in the presence of former Ministers of Agriculture, authorities of the agricultural sector, and former IICA employees, in order to remember the commendable contributions that this institution has made to agricultural development and rural well-being during this long path.
On Wednesday, June 27, a protocol ceremony was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of IICA Dominican Republic, an event where the 2017 Annual Accountability Seminar was also presented by Mr. Frank Lam, Representative, in the presence of Mr. Lloyd Day, IICA Deputy Director General, as well as high level authorities of the national agricultural sector, members of the diplomatic corps and friends of IICA, who throughout this path have supported the projects and initiatives that the institution has carried out. A historical review was also presented at the event, highlighting the milestones, projects and activities that IICA has developed in the Dominican Republic since 1968.
During the ceremony, the Dominican Postal Institute (INPOSDOM) made the official circulation of a postage stamp of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture, in hands of Dr. Modesto Guzmán, INPOSDOM Director. This commemorative stamp honors the outstanding work that IICA has carried out in the country in the past 50 years.
In order to culminate with joy this anniversary week, the IICA-DR staff participated in an institutional tree planting, which took place at the Humedales del Ozama National Park on Friday, June 29. With the planting of approximately 200 trees of different species, the IICA Delegation in the Dominican Republic reaffirmed its commitment to prioritize the conservation of the environment and natural resources in its work agenda.
