Strengthening Belize National extension Service Capacity Building workshop

A mission from May 22 to May 25 took place to provide training to extension officers.

The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment and Sustainable Development organized a mission from May 22 to May 25 2018, to provide training to the extension officers, with the objective to build capacity of extension officers in the use of different extension group methods.

The methodology employed was the use of a participatory and adult learning training approach to ensure active participation of trainees and a variety of interactive training methods including brainstorming, group exercise, role-playing and case study.  The training was organized in two days; the first was carried out at the Yo Creek Agriculture Station in Orange Walk where extension officers from Corozal, Orange Walk and Belize District participated.

The second day of the training had the participation of extension officers from Cayo, Stann Creek and Toledo Districts as well as participation from the Cooperatives Department.

A stakeholder consultation was carried out on the third day and involved a participatory approach to initiate the process of establishing a certified training curriculum program.

Regional project implemented by IICA strengthens sweet potato cultivation in Caribbean countries

Efforts to strengthen sweet potato production and preserve vital genetic resources across the Caribbean are gaining momentum under the Next Generation Sweet Potato Production in the Caribbean Project, now actively engaging stakeholders through a Community of Practice with technical specialists in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Saint Lucia, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.
