The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture moderated a Technical Workshop for Extension organized by the Sugar Industry Research and Development Institute (SIRDI) with the objective of consolidating an approach to extension services and simplifying the service given to farmers thereby avoiding duplication of efforts.  On January 26, 2018, stakeholders extension teams from six different cane farmer associations came together to present their current work on providing extension services to the cane farmers.  Each team made a brief presentation and the main ideas were captured, areas of overlap were identified, felt needs were pointed out and priorities within the extension system were outlined. All extension officers present concluded that communication and training are the main issues to be addressed to further strengthen the sugar cane extension services.
