Welcome to our first edition of 2017! 2017 is a very special year for us. This year, we will be celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the establishment of IICA.
2017 is a very special year for us. This year, we will be celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the establishment of IICA thanks to the visionary proposal of Henry A. Wallace, as U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. In 1940, he proposed the creation of an Institute for Tropical Agriculture, that with time came to be today, the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture.
Much has changed since IICA was established and, despite the important progress that has been achieved, the World and the Americas continue to face profound challenges. This can only be solved by strengthening the collaboration among nations, making IICA more relevant than ever. IICA is uniquely positioned to help in priority areas such as agricultural productivity, trade, food safety, plant and animal health, innovation, food and economic development, and to provide answers to some of the pressing issues of our days such as food and nutritional security, climate change, sustainability and social inequality.
