As part of its interest in knowing the intervention zones of PROCAGICA-RD, the Technical Advisory Committee made a visit again and this time to the two provinces of the Northwest of the country that will impact this project of support to the national coffee industry, locally and regionally.

This delegation includes representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture (MA), Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MIMARENA), Delegation of the European Union in the Dominican Republic, Directorate General of Multilateral Cooperation (DIGECOOM), Dominican Coffee Council (CODOCAFE)  and IICA representatives who chair the committee.

In this visit, as well as the one carried out to the provinces of the South and Southwest of the country, this committee sought to know the facilities and operational structure of CODOCAFE, as well as the work carried out by the latter, the coffee producers’ organizations of both provinces and the nursery facilities that allow to project the production capacity of coffee plants to be used in the renovation of plantations contemplated in one of the components of PROCAGICA- RD.

In each of the provinces and coffee-producing areas visited, the Technical Advisory Committee had the opportunity to exchange information with producers and their organizations on the activities planned to be carried out in each of the components of PROCAGICA-RD and its articulation with CODOCAFE, producer Organizations and other institutions working on the issue in the intervention zones.

Among the activities carried out during the visit, several demonstration farms were visited, in which CODOCAFE has developed a renovation of coffee plantations with coffee species resistant to the Coffee Leaf Rust (CLR).
