The IICA Delegation in the Dominican Republic, with funds from the «Food for Progress» program of the Government of the United States of America; funds were donated to IICA through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) of that country, has been implementing, in close coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and with remarkable and recognized by the beneficiaries success, the national component of the «Project for Strengthening International Quarantine in Haiti and the Dominican Republic».

The IICA Delegation in the Dominican Republic, with funds from the «Food for Progress» program of the Government of the United States of America; funds were donated to IICA through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) of that country, has been implementing, in close coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and with remarkable and recognized by the beneficiaries success, the national component of the «Project for Strengthening International Quarantine in Haiti and the Dominican Republic». Among the most relevant activities with project support during the last three months of implementation of this project and its final conclusion on 31 August, the following are noteworthy because of the impact and acceptance of the positive results achieved:

1) Good Documentation Practices: Trained 90 government and private technicians and managers of agribusiness and agro-exporters Good Practice Documentation, with the participation of international experts recognized in this field, counting among them, Dr. Alexandra Street, of. Texas Tech University; Dr. Mayra Marquez, the Pan-American Agricultural School (Zamorano) and Lic. Ana Marisa Cordero, Specialist in Agricultural Health and Food Safety Health, IICA Headquarters.

2) Best Practices Certification for Export of Fresh Fruits and Vegetables: They were trained 87 inspectors’ inspection services of food for export (National Directorate of Oriental Vegetables, Fresh Fruits and Allied Products Export-DINVOFEX; and the Department Safety Agroalimentaria- DIA) of the Ministry of Agriculture.

3) Strengthening Infrastructure Information System Quarantine Ministry of Agriculture: One of the main results and achievement and accomplishment exhibited by the Project for Strengthening the International Quarantine in Haiti and the Dominican Republic it was the design and delivery to the Ministry of Agriculture of an Information System Quarantine (e-SIC), to manage the process of import and export of animals, plants, products and agricultural products digitally using the Internet network and leaving the Ministry of Agriculture ability to integrate the «System Single Window «which promotes and executes the Directorate General of Customs of the country.

With the resources of the project and during these last three months of project implementation in the country was able to strengthen the internal network of electronic information services which provides the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Plant Protection of the Ministry of Agriculture.
