Héctor Huergo

Goodwill Ambassador of the IICA in Agricultural Communication Issues

In recognition of his ground-breaking work to promote agriculture and bioenergy development.

Mr. Huergo graduated as an agricultural engineer from the School of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). In 1972, he began his career as an agricultural journalist when he joined the Rural Supplement of Clarín newspaper.

He was the founder of the Canal Rural television channel and host of “El Campo, la Industria Verde” (The Countryside, Green Industry), a television program that has been on the air for 30 years. He also promoted Expodinámicas, exhibitions of agricultural technology in action, and served as President of Argentina’s National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA). He has also been a key player in the development of biofuels, direct seeding and intensive livestock farming systems. He is currently the Content Head of the Rural Hub at Grupo Clarín, Argentina’s largest media conglomerate.

Tania Bacelar de Araujo

A Brazilian economist and sociologist, she holds a Master’s and a Doctoral degree from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University. She served as Director of SUDENE and FUNDAJ, Planning and Finance Secretary for the State of Pernambuco, Secretary of Regional Development Policies at the Ministry of National Integration, and Planning Secretary for the City of Recife. Her work has been geared towards achieving equitable regional development, defending the value of Brazilian diversity and promoting the idea of a nation in which everyone must contribute to rebalancing territorial forces.

Gustavo Manrique

IICA Goodwill Ambassador for Sustainable Development

In recognition of his leadership and advocacy of actions for the conservation of biodiversity, climate action, and the ecological transition

Agricultural engineer, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and former Minister of Environment of Ecuador, with more than 25 years’ experience in the field of sustainability. He has enjoyed a successful career working for agricultural and socio-environmental enterprises, and served as a consultant for more than 2000 environmental projects. He is one of the founders of the Latinomérica Verde awards.

Cynthia Rosenzweig

Goodwill Ambassador for Sustainable Development

In recognition of her contribution to science and innovation

American climatologist and agronomist, senior researcher and head of the Climate Impacts group at NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies. She was awarded the World Food Prize in 2022.

Joachim von Braun Goodwill Ambassador for the Bioeconomy and Sustainable Development In recognition of his global work on behalf of more sustainable and inclusive agrifood systems, and in building bridges between Latin America and the rest of the world

Professor of Economics and Technological Change at the Centre for Development Research (ZEF) of the University of Bonn, Germany. He is President of the Vatican’s Pontifical Academy of Sciences, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences Lepoldina, the German Academy of Engineering, the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Arts and Sciences, the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the African Academy of Sciences (AAS). From 2020 to 2021, he was Chair of the Scientific Group convened by the Secretary-General of the United Nations for the Food Systems Summit.

Enrique Iglesias

IICA Goodwill Ambassador for Ibero-American Cooperation and Integration

In recognition of his contributions to the region’s development through multilateralism, cooperation and Ibero-American integration.

Iglesias, who is of Spanish-Uruguayan nationality, served as Ibero-American Secretary-General and Minister of Foreign Relations of Uruguay. He also served as Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and held other important offices in the Americas and Europe.
