In order to support the implementation of prospective analysis for decision making and formulation of public policies for agriculture, for 9 years now, the interagency group comprising IICA-FAO- ECLAC has been engaged in the project: Outlook for Agriculture and Rural Development in the Americas.
As part of this effort, the 3 institutions jointly prepare the report entitled Outlook for Agriculture in the Americas, which is presented every two years to the Ministers of Agriculture of the region at the meeting of the Inter-American Board of Agriculture (IABA).
Furthermore, during the inter-sessional years of the IABA, the 3 institutions prepare technical newsletters on matters of current significance for the region. For 2016, the 3 institutions selected as the main topic for the newsletters “The potential of technology in the development and sustainability of agriculture in the Americas.”
As part of this effort, IICA is responsible for preparing a technical newsletter on the transformational potential of precision agriculture in Latin America and the Caribbean.
As part of the input for this document, IICA is organizing an International Seminar with the main objective of analyzing the current situation and the outlook for precision agriculture in the region.
The seminar will include contribution from experts on the topic and presentation of success stories related to good practices. It will enable participants to identify recommendations that may support the development and implementation of precision agriculture in the region by emphasizing its adoption by small-scale farmers, while promoting the standardization of concepts and knowledge within IICA and among agricultural stakeholders in the Institute’s Member States.
