SENASA, World Animal Protection and the IICA present the Costa Rican Experience “Risk Management and Animal Protection in Disasters: Increasing the resilience of the livestock sector” through a publication containing, inter alia:
- The international and national context of the disaster risk management for animals
- The recognition by a country´s Chief Veterinary Officer of the importance of livelihood protection of the livestock
- The mechanisms used for the development of skills and capabilities, financial and logistical resources for the attention of epidemic and non-epidemic emergencies by SENASA, in coordination with the National Commission for Risk Management and Emergency Response (CNE, Spanish Acronym)
- Lessons learned and improvement opportunities that could benefit similar processes in other countries and regions.
