National Dialogue on a Climate-Proofed Strategic Plan for the Small Ruminant Value Chain

Background and Rationale

The proposed activity is a collaborative initiative with the Saint Lucia Small Ruminant Cooperative Society Limited (SLSRC) to establish a forage bank of locally-avaialable and high-quality forage as an adaptive measure against bio-physical and socio-economic impacts induced by longer drought periods affecting the availability of pasture/feed.

Specific Objectives

  • Support improved competitiveness and productivity of small ruminant production systems through adoption of climate smart practices
  • Establish a forage bank of locally-avaialable and high-quality forage as an adaptive measure against bio-physical and socio-economic impacts induced by longer drought periods affecting the availability of pasture/feed.

Expected Results

  • Enhanced resilience of SLSRCsmall ruminant production systems through improved sustainable supply of quality feed.
  • Climate smart strategic plan for development of the small ruminant value chain.
  • A forage bank of high-quality forage
