Online talks on Antibiotic Use and Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Programs on Agriculture (Main topic: Scope of the problem) organized by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA) and The Ohio State University (OSU).
Understanding the Cycle of Antimicrobial Resistance Determinants: what do we know and what we are assuming. Dr Armando Hoet. This talk will provide a short description of the current issues dealing with AMR in agriculture, using a One Health approach to understand the zoonotic, foodborne and nosocomial transmission of MDR pathogens.
Where Agriculture and Animal Production fit on the spread of Antimicrobial Resistance: It is more complex that we would like to admit. Dr Thomas Wittum. The movement of antimicrobial resistance pathogens and genes is very complex and the understanding of such cycle is essential to be able to design proper surveillance and monitoring systems. In this talk, specific examples of such components and their association with agriculture will be discussed.
Farm practices and impact on the Emergence of Antimicrobial Resistance: How new Rules are Changing the Game (or so we hope!). Dr Gregory Habing. The role of antibiotics and antimicrobial drugs use on animal production at the farm level and its potential as source of AMR will be briefly discussed. Including the impact of the feed directive and new rules are expected to have on the amount of antimicrobial use in food animal production and the associated resistance.
Next online talk will take place on Thursday October 4th.
