Descriptive Document PROCAGICA-RD ready for approval by the EU, IICA and the authorities

After several versions of the Descriptive Document of the Central American Program for the Integrated Management of Coffee in the Dominican Republic we lastly have a consensus version of this requirement document for the signing of the agreement between the Delegation of the European Union (EU) and the IICA Delegation in the Dominican Republic.

 

 

In a joint effort between technicians of the Dominican Coffee Council, the governing body of coffee growing in the country and technicians of the IICA in the Dominican Republic, led by its Representative, Mr. Frank Lam, several working sessions were held for the preparation of that document; managing to have it ready for approval and subsequent signing with the DUE in the country.

The overall objective of the program is to contribute to addressing climate change and its environmental impacts, through the adoption and implementation of adaptation measures, mitigation and risk reduction of environmental and climatic disasters in coffee growing areas of the Dominican Republic.

This project includes benefit some 1,400 coffee producers, located in the coffee growing areas of intervention of seven (7) border provinces, organized and have the interest to participate and develop their skills. They receive lessons in their production of sustainable patterns of production, agroecological production practices, new technology, renovation of coffee plantations, diversification, strengthening of its organizational structure and participation as part of a network within the Early Warning System Units; among others.

They will also be about 35 extension technicians who are skilled and trained in applied research and technology transfer activities income diversification; articulation and organizational strengthening and recording, analysis and interpretation of information of SAT and form part of a network of Technical Assistance coffee to transfer knowledge.
