Agriculture and Food Consultative Council Dialogue

On March 1 2018, the Inter-American institute for Cooperation on Agriculture participated on an Agriculture & Food Consultative Council Dialogue in preparation for the upcoming 35th Session of the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).   The dialogue had the participation of stakeholders from the Belize Agriculture Health Authority (BAHA), Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment, Sustainable Development and Immigration (MAFFESDI), the University of Belize (UB) and Citrus Products of Belize Limited (CPBL).  The dialogue focused on three thematic areas: (i) Eradicating hunger, overweight and obesity (ii) Ending rural poverty (iii) Promoting climate resilient and sustainable agriculture.

Rural leaders, producer organizations and public authorities involved in agricultural research all agreed on the need for a new narrative to demonstrate how farmers in the Americas are transforming their activities, by way of science, technology and innovation, to become guarantors of the world’s food, energy and environmental security, while also increasing resilience and protecting biodiversity.
