Agriculture and Food Consultative Council Dialogue

On March 1 2018, the Inter-American institute for Cooperation on Agriculture participated on an Agriculture & Food Consultative Council Dialogue in preparation for the upcoming 35th Session of the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).   The dialogue had the participation of stakeholders from the Belize Agriculture Health Authority (BAHA), Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment, Sustainable Development and Immigration (MAFFESDI), the University of Belize (UB) and Citrus Products of Belize Limited (CPBL).  The dialogue focused on three thematic areas: (i) Eradicating hunger, overweight and obesity (ii) Ending rural poverty (iii) Promoting climate resilient and sustainable agriculture.

Latin America and the Caribbean can eradicate hunger at a relatively low fiscal cost, shows IMF and IICA study presented to experts and opinion leaders

Eradicating hunger in Latin America and the Caribbean is possible and would entail a relatively low fiscal cost for the countries of the region, according to a study conducted by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) together with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

IICA launches the Itinerant Chair in International Agrifood Trade, aimed at strengthening the negotiation skills of officials from the countries of the Americas and facilitating access to new markets

The initiative stems from the premise that ministries of Foreign Affairs play a key role in formulating and defending their countries’ positions on trade, serving as official spokespersons in negotiation processes and in the application of international trade agreements.
