Banana Accompanying Measures Media Tour Communities and farms in the Banana Belt benefit from electrification project September 22, 2017

On September 22, 2017, the IICA Delegation in Belize participated, along with the European Union Ambassador to Belize, the National Authorizing Office (NAO) in the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Works and the media, on a tour to the southern part of Belize.  This was to learn first-hand how the rural electrification project, funded in partnership with the EU, the Government of Belize and the Belize Electricity Limited, has improved the quality of lives of the residents.  In addition, were present for the groundbreaking ceremony related to the upgrade of the Hopkins village main street and water system phase 1, which will also be funded under the Banana Accompanying Measures (BAM) Financing Agreement 2013 signed between the EU and the Government of Belize.

The event was also used to explore other issues such as the importance of mobilizing financial resources for the development of regenerative agriculture with key stakeholders and the OECD; identify concrete solutions and partnerships to support sustainable agriculture initiatives; improve collaboration between governments, the private sector and international organizations to promote the development of sustainable agriculture; and elevate the importance of agricultural issues in global discussions.
