Guatemalan singer, Francisco Páez joins the IICA tribute to food chain workers

The Guatemalan musician has joined IICA’s campaign to heighten political and social awareness about those who are ensuring our food supply amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

San Jose, 2 June 2020 (IICA). Guatemalan musician, Francisco Páez, has joined the campaign of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) to pay tribute to farmers and food chain workers, whose efforts are ensuring the production, transportation, marketing and supply of food in the Americas during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Páez is a singer in one of Guatemala’s most famous bands, Malacates Trébol Shop, and he has appeared on stage with artists such as Carlos Vives, Aleks Syntek and Calle 13, among others.

In recent weeks, Páez and Malacates have been actively participating in online presentations to garner resources for Guatemalan musicians, whose bookings have declined, due to Covid-19.

IICA’s campaign has brought together renowned artists from different countries in the hemisphere, who are selflessly participating in the POPULAR MUSIC TRIBUTE TO THOSE WHO WORK DAY TO DAY TO PUT FOOD ON OUR TABLES.

Gustavo Grobocopatel, Gustavo Santaolalla, João Bosco, Gilberto Gil, León Gieco, Carlinhos Brown, Luis Enrique Mejía Godoy, Mart’nália, Maria Luiza Jobim, Teresa Parodi, Soledad Villamil, Víctor Heredia, Hilda Lizarazu, Paulo Miklos, Lidia Borda, La Charo (Tonolec), Willy Piancioli (Los Tipitos), Agustín Ronconi (Arbolito), Alejandro Davio (Mundo Alas), Anabella Zoch, Peteco Carabajal, Dolores Solá, Acho Estol (La Chicana), Guadalupe Urbina, Lila Downs, Los Folkloristas, Nano Stern, Ana Prada & Pata Kramer and Adrián Goizueta are just some of the performers who have selflessly and generously contributed to the campaign launched by IICA.

Various organizations in several countries have taken part in the tribute organized by IICA. In Argentina, it has received the backing of the country’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries; the Ministry of Culture of the Nation; The Ministry of Social Development; the anti-hunger program – Plan Argentina contra el Hambre; the Secretariat of Media and Public Communication; the public broadcast entity, Contenidos Públicos Sociedad del Estado and the arts foundation, Fondo Nacional de las Artes.

In Brazil, UNESCO Brazil and the Brazilian Association of Supermarkets (ABRAS) have both endorsed and become a part of this campaign.

The new Director General of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), Muhammad Ibrahim, took part in the International Economic Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean, organized by CAF, where he held meetings with senior authorities from Jamaica, Ecuador, Paraguay, Panama and other international organizations, seeking to scale up programs and projects aimed at underpinning agricultural development, the well-being of rural producers and food security in the region.
