Collaborators Roundtable Discussion

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment and Sustainable Development (MAFFESD) organized and chaired a collaborators roundtable that had the participation of representatives from various regional and international organizations.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment and Sustainable Development (MAFFESD) organized and chaired a collaborators roundtable that had the participation of representatives from various regional and international organizations.

On Monday July 9, 2018, partners in development from organizations such as the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Caribbean Agriculture Research and Development Institute (CARDI), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the International Regional Organization for Animal Health (OIRSA), the Mexican Embassy, the Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA), the Caribbean Community Climate Change Center (CCCCC), the University of Belize (UB) and other national institutions came together for a collaborators roundtable discussion for the development of agriculture in Belize.

The roundtable started by two presentations on behalf of the MAFFESD about climate smart agriculture and its implications for the country.  After the presentations, stakeholders agreed that only through collaboration utilizing and combining the expertise each organization has available, can the development of the agriculture sector in the country be achieved.

IICA is launching the third edition of the Minecraft Education Challenge for Agriculture, aimed at young peopleand designed to promote food production in urban environments

The aim of the 2025 Minecraft Education Challenge is to find creative alternatives in the areas of vertical agriculture, the use of technology for food production in small spaces, agriculture on green roofs, flat roofs and balconies, hydroponics and aeroponics in urban environments, community agriculture, and sustainable urban gardens.
