During a meeting of the NGIN Coalition in Madrid, IICA reaffirmed its commitment to empowering rural youth.

Madrid, 27 February 2025 (IICA) –  During the meeting of the Next Generation Agricultural Impact Network (NGIN) Coalition, held at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in Spain, the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) reiterated its commitment to empowering rural youth.

The NGIN Coalition is a key ally of IICA in its efforts to enhance youth participation in agricultural modernization. Over the past three years, their joint work has been geared towards generating opportunities for young leaders of the Americas, facilitating their access to decision-making forums.

A total of 45 individuals have been part of the NGIN Coalition’s youth ambassador cohorts, receiving technical training aimed at enhancing their impact in high-level forums.

The goal of the meeting in Madrid was to strengthen the Coalition for the benefit of youth involved in agriculture around the world. Participants underscored the need for coordination with other entities, including the private sector, international organizations, civil society organizations and universities.

During the meeting, IICA strengthened its linkages with partner organizations of the NGIN Coalition, such as I4Nature, CSAYN, AHA and IFAMA.

NGIN’s new strategic guidelines for the next five years were also defined, with a view to consolidating a stronger, more effective and collaborative network.

IICA also used the meeting as an opportunity to strengthen ties with other partner organizations of the Coalition, such as I4Nature, CSAYN, Andreas Hermes Akademie (AHA) and IFAMA.

Silvia Castellano, technical specialist of the IICA program related to rural women and youth, participated in the meeting and explained that “the goal is to strengthen youth leadership within the context of agricultural transformation, working hand in hand with our strategic partners. Not only must we amplify the voices of rural youth of the Americas, but we must also ensure that they are able to play an active and leading role in the global agenda”.
