Food Safety System Certification (FSSC 22000)

Tiempo de lectura: 3 mins.

The Belize Bureau of Standards facilitated a Food Safety System Certification (FSSC 22000) Awareness Training from April 11th – 13th 2018 at the BBS office on Power Lane, Belmopan in which it had the participation of IICA Technical Specialists. With the globalization of food production and procurement, food chains are becoming longer, more complex, and subsequently prone to food safety risks and incidents.

The FSSC 22000 Food Safety Management System provides a framework for effectively managing an organization’s food safety responsibilities. FSSC 22000 is fully recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and is based on existing ISO Standards.  FSSC 22000 is to be used for auditing and certification of food safety systems of organizations in the food chain, which process or manufacture:

  • Perishable animal products (i.e. meat, poultry, eggs, dairy and fish products)
  • Perishable vegetal products (i.e. fresh fruits and fresh juices, preserved fruits, fresh vegetables, preserved vegetables)
  • Products with long shelf life at ambient temperature (i.e. canned products, biscuits, snacks, oil, drinking water, beverages, pasta, flour, sugar, salt)
  • Biochemical (i.e. vitamins, additives and bio-cultures) but excluding technical and technological aids
