San Jose, 30 September2020 (IICA). Several works of art by the illustrator and painter, Jorge Checo Blanco, from the Dominican Republic, which depict the colors, wealth and diversity of fruits from the land in Latin America and the Caribbean, are the new paintings being shown on the virtual gallery Agro y Cultura (Agriculture and Culture-agroycultura.iica.int) of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).

Checo is an innate illustrator and brilliant colorist. His mastery of both disciplines has enabled him to create incredibly captivating works of art due to the level of realism of his pyramidal compositions.

The works that are being exhibited on the site are four oil paintings that exquisitely depict fruits such as guava, mandarin, cocoa and papaya.

“Our aim is for the artists who participate in Agro y Cultura to depict what is happening in the Americas, where people have ways of life that are different from the urban centers, but which are also fundamental to forging our identities, our culture and our traditions”, stated the Director General of IICA.

The Caribbean artist, whose career spans 30 years, studied at the National Fine Arts Institute in Santo Domingo, where he received several prizes. He resided in the United States where he came into close contact with the works of important modern artists in New York. He was also a professor of illustration in the Department of Liberal Arts at the Universidad Iberoamericana de Santo Domingo (UNIBE).

Esta es una de las cuatro obras del artista dominicano que se exhiben en el sitio del IICA Agro y Cultura.

He has participated in collective and individual exhibitions in the Dominican Republic, United States, Puerto Rico, Italy and Brazil.

The works of Jorge Checo Blanco on IICA’s website accompany the exhibits of Argentine artists Gaby Grobocopatel and Manuel Cancel.
