IICA meets with senior technicians of the Ministry of Agriculture to discuss Flagship Project

On Tuesday November 14, 2017, the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture, met with Senior Technicians of the Ministry of Agriculture to discuss cooperation on Flagship Project activities for 2018.  Mrs. Yvette Alonso, IICA agriculture economist and policy analyst, presented the components of the flagship project and were discussed with the senior technicians and a consensus was reached to focus on two key areas of importance for the agricultural sector.  IICA in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture agreed to 1.) Establishing demonstration plots for research in soil and water management for crops, 2.) Highlighting the valuable work of extension and research in Belize, 3.)  The national agriculture extension operational procedural manual updated to serve as a guide to assist the extension officers in carrying out their duties.

More than 200 representatives from 18 countries, plus 47 speakers, came together for the Third Pan-American Bioinputs Forum in Colombia, an event consisting of two days of technical and political dialogue and one day of field visits. It was a reaffirmation of the commitment of the Americas to more sustainable, competitive and science-based agriculture.
