On June 8, 2017, the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture Delegation in Belize hosted a roundtable for international development partners interested in aligning efforts and exploring opportunities for collaboration on joint initiatives to strengthen the agriculture sector in the country, based on the priorities of the Government.
On June 8, 2017, the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture Delegation in Belize hosted a roundtable for international development partners interested in aligning efforts and exploring opportunities for collaboration on joint initiatives to strengthen the agriculture sector in the country, based on the priorities of the Government.
The roundtable took place at the Administrative and Technical Services Conference Room at theNational Agriculture and Trade Showgrounds, in Belmopan, Belize. A total of 13 agencies participated in this first meeting including the Dean of the Diplomatic Corp – the British High Commissioner, the Brazilian Embassy, the Chile Embassy, the Embassy of Mexico, the Embassy of Peru, the Embassy of Taiwan ROC, CARDI, EU, IDB, INCAP-PAHO/WHO, OIRSA and UNDP. The initiative was well received by the participating agencies and the meeting was chaired by the IICA Representative in Belize.
The objective of the roundtable is to develop a common agenda for the development of the Agriculture Sector in Belize, based in each organization’s competences, to meet the priorities of the Government with the aim of avoiding duplications of actions and projects and maximizing the use of the available resources. It is expected that this roundtable initiative will increase international support and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of investments and technical assistance activities provided by these agencies in the country.
The next meeting was scheduled for July 6, 2017 at which time each participating agency will make a presentation of their agriculture projects and programs and a plan of action will be developed to promote collaboration in advancing the country’s efforts in food security, increasing production and productivity in a sustainable manner, upgrading agriculture value chains, improving livelihoods of producers and risk management, including climate change.
