Nassau, The Bahamas, 16 February 2026 (IICA) – Civil society organizations and cooperatives in The Bahamas will have access to a training workshop aimed at improving their chances of securing international financing for community projects with an impact on agriculture and the environment.
This program was designed by the Agricultural and Environmental Development Cooperative Society (AGENDEVCO) in collaboration with the Delegation of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) in The Bahamas and will be delivered through six interactive virtual workshops between February 19 and March 31.
Funding for the workshop will be provided by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
The sessions will be practical in nature and will seek to facilitate access to financing for community projects through the identification of opportunities, compliance with donor requirements and the drafting of strong and competitive applications. They will focus on the preparation of high-quality proposals that meet GEF requirements.
The workshop will cover the following topics: fundamentals of grant proposals; research on grant opportunities and alignment with funders; budget development; and proposal review and feedback.
Those interested in the workshop may apply through the form available at https://form.jotform.com/260364229153858.
AGENDEVCO was created by professionals committed to the development of The Bahamas’ agricultural and environmental sectors. It was designed to serve as a driver of change, stimulating research, development, the incorporation of technologies and economic growth.
IICA supports food security in the Caribbean
As part of its work in the Caribbean, IICA is supporting initiatives led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources of The Bahamas aimed at strengthening local food security, reducing dependence on imports and promoting more sustainable and resilient agricultural and fisheries production.
These initiatives seek to increase local food production while generating employment, strengthening farmers and fishers and ensuring more stable access to fresh products for the population.
The hemispheric organization is also committed to recovery efforts in response to the impact of increasingly frequent extreme climate events.
Recently, Minister Jomo Campbell and IICA Representative in The Bahamas, Mari Dunleavy, together with her team, received agricultural supplies to be distributed among farmers affected by Hurricane Melissa, which struck the Caribbean in October and caused dozens of deaths and material damage across the region, with The Bahamas among the affected countries.
