Mexican Hass avocado growers were excited to receive training in an alternative non-destructive way of determining avocado maturity.

Mr. Daniel Burgoyne of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) was the special guest presenter at the forum hosted by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) Office in Canada and talked about the new requirements under the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations.

The project’s objective was to promote opportunities to generate additional income for families in the cocoa growing communities of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) by enhancing the value of cocoa products through the value chain, expanding commercial opportunities and by institutional strengthening.

With the worrying trend of increased numbers of hungry in the world, the intensity and frequency of extreme weather events and inadequate infrastructure and rural services, the global agri-food system is under intense pressure.
