  • IICA and IDB to lead a platform for sustainable livestock farming in the Americas 

    The main objectives of the platform will be to develop a shared vision for sustainable livestock farming in the hemisphere and to promote policies and lines of action to assist current livestock farming systems in transitioning towards systems characterized by greater economic, social and environmental sustainability.
  • IICA applauds Colombia’s leadership in climate change mitigation and adaptation in agriculture and celebrates the country’s agreement with the Green Climate Fund and CAF

    Manuel Otero, IICA Director General, emphasized the efforts of the government and the Colombian production sector to harness the enormous potential of the country to be a climate-smart production power, remarking that, “Colombia’s achievement in signing this agreement—that will allow it to satisfy the emission targets of the agriculture sector that the country committed to under the Paris Agreement—sets an example for agriculture throughout Latin America and the Caribbean”.
  • At COP27 in Egypt, the Living Soils of the Americas initiative showcased the climate solutions it has provided for agriculture in the hemisphere

    Some of the key players in this initiative—that has successfully combined private-public sector efforts to combat soil degradation—recounted the program’s achievements during an event held at the Home of Sustainable Agriculture of the Americas pavilion in the Sharm El-Sheikh Convention Center. IICA established the pavilion with the support of its member countries and international partners.
  • International specialists called to participate in the 2023 ICABR global bioeconomy conference, co-organized by IICA and the Secretariat of Agriculture of Argentina

    For the first time in its history, the conference will be held in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). It will take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from July 4 to 7, 2023, and will explore “Sustainable transitions in the bioeconomy as a driver of new dynamics in institutional development”.
  • At COP27, Rattan Lal, AAPRESID, EMBRAPA and IICA highlight Sustainable Agriculture Milestones in the Americas and the wholehearted commitment of the region to natural resource protection

    The presentation took place at the Home of Sustainable Agriculture of the Americas pavilion that IICA has installed at the Sharm El-Sheikh Convention Center, where the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is underway. The document is divided into seven chapters that recount different successful experiences in the rural areas of the Americas in recent years, which the protagonists themselves relate in great detail, with scientific rigor, and in a didactic manner.
  • At COP27, countries of the Southern Region describe their contribution to the fight against climate change by increasing livestock productivity and producers’ income

    With concrete evidence and data, they explained the results of the programs they have implemented to reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of their production systems, which have not only yielded positive environmental results, but have also improved the income of rural families.
