Summit of the Americas: U.S. announces multi-million dollar aid package for Central America, while IICA calls for a “hemispheric partnership” to tackle the food crisis
The panelists discussed actions and proposals that must be implemented in the Americas, by governments, the private sector, civil society and academia, in the face of mounting crises posed by the war in Eastern Europe, the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change. The situation is triggering increases in the prices of food and energy, as well as disruptions in the trade of fertilizers, putting the people of the most vulnerable countries in Latin America and the Caribbean in a precarious position.

IICA names Gillian Goddard a “Leader of Rurality” for her work to empower small farmers in Trinidad and Tobago and other Caribbean islands
Goddard opened Trinidad and Tobago’s first organic food store and founded the Alliance of Rural Communities – a non-profit that seeks to enlighten farmers about the value of natural resources, ensure their role in public policy development and facilitate their access to the requisite financial tools to boost their production and income.
World Farmers’ Organisation and IICA to work together to bring science-based innovations to rural producers
WFO, which is based in Rome, and IICA signed an agreement to pursue initiatives focusing on resilience, training and horizontal cooperation for the Hemisphere’s agriculture sector.
