Joseph W. Glauber
Senior Research Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute
Joe Glauber is a Senior Research Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute in Washington, DC where his areas of interest are price volatility, global grain reserves, crop insurance and trade. Prior to joining IFPRI, Glauber spent over 30 years at the U.S. Department of Agriculture including as Chief Economist from 2008 to 2014. As Chief Economist, he was responsible for the Department’s agricultural forecasts and projections, oversaw climate, energy and regulatory issues, and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation.
From 2007-2009, Glauber was the Special Doha Agricultural Envoy at the office of the U.S. Trade Representative where he served as chief agricultural negotiator in the Doha talks. He served as economic adviser at the so-called Blair House agreements leading to the completion of the Uruguay Round negotiations and was senior economist for agriculture at the President’s Council of Economic Advisers. He is the author of numerous studies on crop insurance, agricultural policy, and agricultural trade issues.
Dr. Glauber received his Ph.D. in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin in 1984 and holds an AB in anthropology from the University of Chicago. In 2012, he was elected Fellow of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association.
Chief Economist & Deputy Director Public Policy Department, American Farm Bureau Federation
Bob joined American Farm Bureau Federation in 2003 as the Chief Economist, providing analysis of short-term issues in support of the policy implementation effort of the Federation. In 2013, he took on the added responsibility of Deputy Executive Director of the Public Policy Department, helping to coordinate the overall advocacy efforts of the Federation.
Dr. Young came to Farm Bureau from the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute or FAPRI where he was Co-Director from 1991 through 2003. He served as the Chief Economist of the United State Senate Committee on Agriculture from 1987 through 1991. Dr. Young has a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Missouri, with a B.S. and M.S. in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Missouri as well.
Gary C. Martin
President and CEO, North American Export Grain Association (NAEGA)
Gary C. Martin has served since June of 2000 as President and Chief Executive Officer of the North American Export Grain Association (NAEGA,) www.naega.org. Since 2104 he has served as the President of the International Grain Trade Coalition www.igtcglobal.com. In addition, his many industry leadership activities include service as a Co-chair of U.S. Food and Agriculture Dialog for Trade Agreements, and a Co-Chair of the Canada-U.S. Grain and Seed Trade Task Group www.canada-usgrainandseedtrade.info.
Before assuming the presidency of NAEGA, Gary was a NAEGA Board Director and officer, representing Farmland Industries, Inc. At Farmland he had several responsibilities including Director of Trade and International Relations, Director of Grain Marketing, and Founder and President of Farmland Graños in Mexico. From 1990 to 1992 Mr. Martin served the Administration of George H.W. Bush at the US Department of Agriculture as Deputy Administrator of Commodity Operations and as an officer of the Commodity Credit Corporation. In the first year of the Clinton Administration, from 1992 to 1993, he served as an advisor to the Special Ambassador to the former Soviet Union at the US Department of State.
Gary earned a B.Sc. in Agricultural Economics, with highest honors, from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. He is also a graduate of the University of Missouri, Institute of Cooperative Leadership, and has graduate studies in International Transactions at the George Mason University.
Gary and his wife Denise reside in Ashburn, Virginia USA.
President of Cereals Canada
Cam has significant experience in Canadian agriculture. Immediately prior to joining Cereals Canada Cam held the post of General Manager of Manitoba Beef Producers. Cam has also served as Commissioner of the Canadian Grain Commission (Appointed by the Governor in Council) from 2007-10. He has also held the positions of Manager of Government Relations and Policy Development, Agricore United, Executive Director of the Grain Growers of Canada and served on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
Cam has served as the Chairperson of the Technical Advisory Panel requested by the Minister of International Cooperation to recommend projects for funding under the Canada Fund for African Climate Resilience. He also serves on the Advisory Committee for the Scaling Seeds and Technologies Partnership in Africa and is the past-President of the Canadian Agriculture Hall of Fame.
Cam holds a BSA and M. Sc. in agriculture economics from the University of Manitoba.
Juan Carlos Anaya Castellanos
CEO of Agricultural Markets Consulting Group
Juan Carlos Anaya Castellanos is CEO of Agricultural Markets Consulting Group (Grupo Consultor de Mercados Agrícolas); their target is to generate business tools for marketing schemes operations, through the management of information and data analysis from the main national and international agricultural markets, for traders, service providers, financial institutions, federal entities, and governments.
His experience in the consulting and information area has been since 2001 in the Agricultural Markets Consulting Group. He provides supervision and monitoring services related to the market information, analysis of international and national markets, strategies for grain trading, risk management, and gives support to participants in programs established by SAGARPA (Ministry of Agriculture).
Among his work experience, he has held the position of Operations Manager at DICONSA S.A. de C.V. from 1999 to 2001, Operations Manager at Bodegas Rurales Conasupo, S.A. DE C.V., Assistant warehouse manager and head of the administrative coordination unit at Compañía Nacional de Subsistencias Populares (National Popular Subsistence Company) from 1988 to 1996.
Thomas M. Suber
President, Suber Global LLC
Tom Suber retired in 2017 after 21 years as the first president of the U.S. Dairy Export Council, where he guided the industry’s export growth from 3% of total U.S. milk solids production to 15%. Reporting to a membership representing U.S. farmers, processors and exporters, his executive responsibilities included strategic planning, trade and regulatory policies, market and competitive research, marketing, and issues/crisis management. He was staff lead for Globalization work conducted by the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy and Bain & Co., whose strategic plan galvanized industry efforts to become a more consistent export supplier.
Suber has served on numerous advisory and management boards including the Dairy Research Institute, U.S. Agricultural and Export Development Council, two U.S. government trade policy advisory committees (APAC and ATAC), and the Food & Agricultural Export Alliance.
Since retiring, he is the principal of Suber Global LLC, a strategic trade consulting firm.
Tom has a Master’s degree from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service and a Bachelor degree in history and Asian studies from Colorado State University. He lives in Washington, DC with his wife, Cary, and has two grown sons.
Senior Vice President, International Affairs, North American Meat Institute
William W. (Bill) Westman is the Senior Vice President of International Affairs at the North American Meat Institute in Washington, D.C. The Meat Institute represents meat packers, including beef, pork, lamb and turkey products, and supports lowering barriers to trade in meat and poultry products. Bill is a retired Foreign Service Officer from the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service. During his career he served in China, Germany, Brazil, Venezuela, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. His languages include Spanish, Portuguese, and some basic Mandarin.
Bill received a Masters of Science degree in Forestry from Virginia Tech and a Natural Resource Management degree from Cook College, Rutgers University.
Edward J. Farrell
Principal, OFW Law and Counsel, Canadian Cattlemen's Association (CCA)
Ed Farrell is a principal at OFW Law where he concentrates his practice on international trade matters, particularly with respect to agricultural products. Ed has represented clients, including the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association, before the International Trade Commission, congressional committees, and government agencies and departments, advising on a wide range of matters, including trade remedies, WTO and other trade agreement dispute settlement. His practice includes Federal trial and appellate litigation, and advising on the impact of trade negotiations on clients’ businesses. Ed is on the U.S. NAFTA Chapter 19 Roster of Panelists to hear disputes under the trade remedy laws.
Director of Business Development, SuKarne
Efraín Reséndiz is a veteran of the Mexican food industry with over 35 years of experience and a broad expertise in planning, finance, marketing, business development and technology application. He is currently the Business Development VP of SuKarne, the Mexican leader in the Global animal protein market and the 3rd largest cattle feeder in the World.
He has been in this role from January 2011, where he is responsible for developing alliances, promoting the domestic and international growth of the company, as well as mergers and acquisitions.
The Group maintains operations with companies in 18 countries, while its production chain includes more than 100,000 agricultural and livestock providers.
In addition to being the largest producer, importer and marketer in Mexico, SuKarne accounts for 2/3 of the country's meat exports and is the primary supermarkets provider. Prior to this role, he was heavily involved with the Mexican state of Sinaloa as the CEO for the Center of Investment and Trade and as the Undersecretary of Economic Development from January 2005 to December 2010; here he was responsible for coordinating public policies and strategies for the promotion of investments and exports in the State, as well as for the development of logistics, energy and industrial infrastructure.
Previously, Mr. Resendiz occupied the position of CFO in SuKarne and was the Head of Corporate Planning and Investor Relations of Sigma Alimentos, the largest refrigerated food processor and distributor in Mexico.
Director, Food and Agriculture Sector at McLarty Associates
Eric Trachtenberg is Director, Food and Agriculture Sector at McLarty Associates. The McLarty Food and Agricultural practice supports our clients globally, and is also focused on addressing nutrition and non-communicable diseases (NCD), promoting new agricultural technology, and supporting investment, mergers and acquisitions. Prior to McLarty, Trachtenberg was Vice President at the USA Poultry & Egg Export Council (USAPEEC) where he facilitated improved market access for US poultry in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. From 1995 to 2010, he worked for USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) in Beijing, Taipei, Moscow, and Washington. At FAS, Trachtenberg supervised int agricultural development programs, resolved international trade issues, reported on agricultural production, and promoted U.S. agricultural exports. He has an M.S. in Agricultural Economics from Michigan State University, an M.P.A. from the University of Southern California, and a B.A. in Government and Economics from Cornell University. He speaks Russian and Mandarin Chinese.
Nancy J. Tucker, CAE
Vice President, Global Business Development, PMA | produce marketing association
Nancy Tucker is the Vice President, Global Business Development, for the Produce Marketing Association, a non-profit, trade association for the fresh fruit, vegetable, and floral industries with more than 2,800 company members in 45 countries. PMA works to bring together buyers and sellers, provide information and education, and work on industry issues.
Nancy works with all the staff at PMA team to increase PMA’s global membership and business opportunities. In her more than 30 years with PMA, Nancy has also managed the communications, marketing, membership, training, and nutrition education departments of PMA.
She has used this expertise to foster global business opportunities for companies in the fresh produce industry; promote 5 A Day programs around the world, and train association staff in Latin America, the Philippines and Morocco. Nancy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Food and Nutrition and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing, both from the University of Delaware.
President and CEO of the United Fresh Produce Association
Tom Stenzel has served as President and CEO of the United Fresh Produce Association since 1993. United Fresh is widely known for its work in shaping government policy that affects the produce industry, developing tools and services to assist member companies in addressing complex issues such as food safety and supply chain logistics, and bringing together companies throughout the supply chain to build business relationships that promote growth and profitability.
He is a frequent speaker on produce business issues, and has represented the industry testifying before Congress and federal regulatory agencies numerous times. He was honored as the 2002 Produce Man of the Year by The Packer newspaper.
He is a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Committee of 100 leading association executives, and the Key Industry Associations Committee of the American Society of Association Executives, from which he achieved the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation in 1990. Tom served as President of the International Food Information Council (IFIC) from 1986-1993, and is a 1977 graduate of the University of Richmond.
President, Canadian Produce Marketing Association
Mr. Lemaire brings 25 years of extensive experience from a not-for-profit association perspective with a focus on vertically integrated supply chains, government relations and a food systems philosophy.
For over 16 years and in his role as CPMA President, Ron has worked to represent the needs and interests of over 830 international and Canadian members to enhance the Canadian market and facilitate trade of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Mr. Lemaire’s professional background brings a range of diversified experiences ranging from government relations and advocacy, association management and governance, strategic planning, marketing and communications, as well as public private partnerships and capacity building.
Ron holds a combined Bachelor’s Degree from Carleton University in both Law and Sociology.
Strategic Advisor, Association of Producers and Packer-Exporters of Avocados from Mexico (APEAM)
Born in Uruapan, Michoacan, Mexico, in 1960. Obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture and Agribusiness from the Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey; his MBA from Universidad La Salle; and his Ph.D. degree in International Management and Business Ethics from the EGADE Business School of the Tecnologico de Monterrey.
For more than 20 years, he worked in the production and exportation of fresh fruits, particularly avocados and mangos, in Mexico; and was appointed as CEO of several exporting firms. He was elected Vice Chairman of APEAM, the association of avocado producers and packer-exporters of avocados From Mexico, for the term 2000-2002.
He was a professor at the Universidad Don Vasco, in Uruapan and at the Tecnologico de Monterrey, for more than 15 years. Between 2009 and 2015, he was full time professor at the Business School of the Universidad de Monterrey.
Currently, he is an avocado grower in both Michoacan and Jalisco states, in Mexico; President of “Paz Mendoza y Asociados” and “Sistemas Fruticolas”, companies dedicated to consulting in agribusiness and fruit exports; Strategic Advisor to APEAM; member of the Board of Directors of Avocados From Mexico (the company created to promote Avocados From Mexico in USA); and Secretary of the Board of the International Alliance of Fruit and Vegetable Exporters for the Advancement of Social Responsibility in Mexico (AHIFORES).
President, Canadian Federation of Agriculture
Ron Bonnett, President of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA), has had a long and varied career in agriculture.
In the mid-1980s, he became the founding president of the Algoma Federation of Agriculture, where he helped combat high interest rates. He also was engaged in municipal politics during this time, serving as reeve of the Township of Plummer where he advocated for rural economic development and a strong agriculture sector.
In the late 1990s, Ron became involved with the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, sitting on its board of directors and executive committee where he served as vice-president for two years and president for four years. It was during his time with OFA that Ron joined the CFA Board of Directors, becoming 2nd Vice-President in February 2007. He has held the role of CFA President since June 2010.
Ron is currently an advisor to the Canadian Agriculture Policy Institute and as is a former board member at Farm Management Canada. As an advocate of agriculture at the international level, Ron sits on the Board of the World Farmers' Organization and played an active role in the organization's launch.
Ron currently operates a cow-calf farm with his wife, Cathy, in Bruce Mines, ON. Ron and Cathy have a son, Terry; a daughter, Veronica; and four grandchildren.
