The mission held several meetings with public and private institutions to promote initiatives in natural resources
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, December 2018 (IICA). During the second week of December, a mission of officials from the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) and the Headquarters of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) visited the Dominican Republic to explore the possibility of developing projects that promote the agricultural development and the rural well-being of the country.
The agenda of this mission included meetings with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the Dominican Republic – Haiti High Level Binational Commission and the Water Resource Coordination Board to develop initiatives that promote soil protection and conservation of natural resources in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, agroforestry development, as well as rural well-being. Another meeting was also convened with the National Association of Manufacturers and Importers of Agricultural Phytosanitary Products (AFIPA) where it was discussed the opportunity to develop an initiative in the recycling of plastic containers of agrochemical products.
The visit of this mission to the Dominican Republic was part of the agreement signed at the end of November by the high authorities of the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), with the aim of stimulating the public and private investment in the agricultural, forestry and fishing sectors to improve the quality of life in the rural territories of the continent.
Within the framework of this strategic alliance, both institutions will work together to promote recovery activities and sustainable land use; strengthen agricultural insurance systems and risk management to the effects of climate change, as well as the promotion of green businesses, including biotrade, ecotourism, forestry and agroforestry, among others.
