The agreement was signed by Mr. Frank Lam, IICA Representative in the country and Mr. Osmar Benítez, executive president of JAD.

Both institutions committed themselves to developing training activities on topics of interest to producers and technicians at the national level.

The agreement also includes the implementation of activities in the agricultural area in order to transfer knowledge to producers, instruct them on good practices and train them through other technical activities.

Mr. Benítez said that they also, within the agreement, will develop technological tools on market intelligence, consumption trends and sanitary and phytosanitary regulations that serve to facilitate the access of Dominican agricultural products to international markets.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lam said the agreement represents an important alliance for IICA with the Dominican private agricultural sector, «because it strengthens our institutional link to offer a technical cooperation agenda geared to the needs of the thousands of small and medium-sized farmers, members of JAD «. He also said he was optimistic that the results of the cooperation agenda would serve as a model for other IICA member countries. The agreement, which will run for four years, proposes to carry out monitoring and evaluation of the actions included.
