Within the framework of the Program to Strengthen Quality for the Development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) has identified strategic allies to strengthen IICA’s technical cooperation and foster local technical capacity.

The Program for Strengthening Quality for the Development of SMEs is part of the 2014-2020 National Indicative Program, to support inclusive productive development, and training for quality employment, financed by the European Fund for Development (EDF).

In the same order, the Dominican Republic declared 2019 as the Year of Innovation and Competitiveness through decree 453-18, with the aim of facilitating trade, simplifying regulations, optimizing and transforming production processes, increasing exports and deepening public-private partnerships.

The technical cooperation programs included in the 2018-2022 Medium Term Plan (MTP) of IICA cover topics such as Bioeconomy, productive development, sustainable production, food safety, among other issues that are of vital importance for the strengthening of SMEs and the promotion of innovation and national competitiveness.

As part of the implementation of the 2018-2022 Medium Term Plan, the IICA Office in the Dominican Republic will coordinate a series of actions to contribute to the efforts made by government institutions and the private sector to foster innovation and increase productivity.
