During August, the IICA Delegation in the Dominican Republic was able to consolidate and present to the authorities of the agricultural sector, public-private institutions and national cooperation agencies, their support and collaboration strategy to be developed in the period 2016-2018.

During August, the IICA Delegation in the Dominican Republic was able to consolidate and present to the authorities of the agricultural sector, public-private institutions and national cooperation agencies, their support and collaboration strategy to be developed in the period 2016-2018.

In a consultation process, proposals, requests for support and cooperation from different public and private institutions of the national agricultural sector, cooperation agencies and producer organizations; which began in early March this year, following the arrival of the new IICA Representative in the country, Frank Lam, it was finally drafted the IICA Strategy in the Dominican Republic.

The IICA Strategy, is the IICA Technical Cooperation main instrument in the Dominican Republic for the fulfillment of the eleven contributions identified in section V of the Medium Term Plan (MTP). Regarding this and taking into account the Dominican Government´s priorities, the institutional demands of the agricultural sector, analysis and discussions with cooperation agencies and technical equipment of this representation; helped identify approximately three (3) strategic technical cooperation in the period from 2016 to 2018 period lines:

  1. To help improve the competitiveness of domestic production to ensure food security and its link to the local, regional and international markets;
  2. Strengthen the National Program for Health and Safety Agricultural Food;
  3. Support national and international action to reduce the effects of climate change in the agricultural sector.
