In this act, the contributions of IICA to contribute to the agricultural development and rural wellbeing of the Dominican Republic during 2018 were presented
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, April 2019. The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) held its presentation of accounts of technical cooperation provided in the Dominican Republic during 2018. Frank Lam, Representative, presented a summary of the activities and initiatives carried out, highlighting the contributions for the strengthening of the Dominican coffee industry through the activities developed within the framework of the Dominican Republic Component Project of the Central American Program for Integrated Management of Coffee Rust (PROCAGICA), with financing of the European Union.
Likewise, the contributions of IICA were presented on the topics of climate change and natural resources, agricultural health and food safety, and trade, through technical support to the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, and other partner institutions of the public and private sector.
In his speech, the Vice Minister of Agricultural Sector Planning of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Juan José Espinal, thanked the work and the contributions that IICA makes in the country to strengthen the institutional framework in the agricultural sector and support the efforts made by the different sectors to boost the productivity and competitiveness.
The activity was held in the multipurpose room of the Ministry of Agriculture, in the presence of high authorities of the Ministry of Agriculture, diplomatic corps, cooperation agencies and partner institutions of IICA in the Dominican Republic, and public and private sector, belonging to the agricultural sector.
