IICA joins the celebration of World Food Safety Day

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, June 2019 (IICA). As a way to disseminate the importance of food safety, the World Health Organization (WHO) declares, as of this year, June 7 as the World Day for Food Safety.

In support of the celebration of this day, the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) conducted a campaign involving social media, short videos, and other promotional materials. From the IICA Office in the Dominican Republic, short videos were presented by distinguished personalities of the country in the field of food safety who offered their opinion about (1) What is the benefit when the country invests in food safety? (2) Why is food safety important? and (3) What are the most relevant and important projects and contributions of IICA in food safety? Among those interviewed are Ing. Elsa Acosta, Director of the Food Department of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance and Lic. Raúl Peralta, Director of the Department of Agrifood Safety of the Ministry of Agriculture.

In that same order, the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare and the National Committee of Food Codex, together with FAO, celebrated the World Day of Safety with two lectures, held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in the city of Santo Domingo. The talks were given by Mr. Israel Ríos, Expert of the FAO, which addressed the topic of the Protection of Food Safety in a Global Market and by Dr. Marcos Sánchez who presented «The Dominican Republic: Safety of the Food, FSMA Law and Export to the United States. The activity counted with the presence of International Organizations, such as IICA and FAO, the productive sector, government institutions, students, the press and public in general.

El Challenge Minecraft Education 2025 está enfocado en la búsqueda de alternativas creativas en las áreas de agricultura vertical, uso de tecnología para la producción de alimentos en espacios reducidos, agricultura en techos verdes, azoteas, y balcones, hidroponía y aeroponía en entornos urbanos, agricultura comunitaria y huertos urbanos sostenibles.
