Mr. Frank Lam, Representative of IICA in the country participated in a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Extension and Agricultural Training of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Leandro Mercedes who expressed his interest in strengthening the binational relationship with Haiti. In this regard, he said that at that meeting the European Union stated that it had 19 million euros available to meet proposals from the cooperating organizations. At the same time, he explained that USDA also showed its interest in supporting this type of activities.

So, after listening to the interest of both agencies, Mr. Frank Lam contacted his representatives to express their interest in presenting a series of initiatives, which could become binational projects.

On the other hand, in view of this situation and after the visit of the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Ángel Estévez to IICA HQ, the Representatives of IICA and FAO from both the Dominican Republic and Haiti met in the country with the objective of defining what would be the best apporach for both ministries to develop a binational strategy.

El Instituto Interamericano de Cooperación para la Agricultura (IICA) y la Fundación CRUSA presentaron los avances y resultados del proyecto “De Turrialba a la Mesa”, una iniciativa orientada al fortalecimiento de la cadena productiva del Queso Turrialba con Denominación de Origen, el único queso en Costa Rica y el resto Centroamérica que cuenta con esta distinción.
