The process of progress in the country’s compliance with the Agreement on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures of the WTO is analyzed.

 

 Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, August 11, 2017 (IICA). The National Committee for the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (CNMSF), has been coordinating and organizing with the technical support of the institutions that make up its membership, Diplomas, courses and workshops within its program to publicize the commitments and advances Of the country in compliance with the WTO Agreement on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS).

Dominican Republic, presents in the CEI-RD the status of progress in the
compliance of the WTO SPS in the Dominican Republic.

During the year 2015, the CNMSF organized and developed a first diploma, in which a total of 50 technicians and officials from various public and private sector institutions were trained. On that occasion, the activity was sponsored with financial resources from several institutions, which highlighted the support and economic participation of the SPS-CARIFORUM-EPA Project; Project that was carried out in the country by IICA, with financing from the European Union.

In 2017 the CNMSF continues this successful training program, this time under the auspices of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Health the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Center for Investment and Export of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD), the Ministry of Planning, Economy and Development (MEPyD) and IICA. The Diplomate was scheduled to exhaust 71 hours of training during the period from August 4 to October 13, following a schedule of Friday usage of each week during that period. The IICA SAIA Specialist participated throughout the day of Friday August 11, developing various exhibitions on the progress of the implementation of SPS in the country since the establishment of the commitments acquired with the signing of the Agreement with the WTO and the AMSF.
