Belém do Pará, Brazil, 10 November 2025 (IICA) – The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and its partners will once again raise the voice of the agriculture sector of the Americas at the world’s foremost environmental forum, which begins today and will be held in the Americas again after eleven years.

COP30 will bring together more than 50,000 people from nearly 200 countries in Belém do Pará, in the Brazilian Amazon. Among other prominent spaces, it will feature the  IICA pavilion, called the Home of Sustainable Agriculture of the Americas.

In the pavilion, the hemisphere’s agriculture sector will use scientific evidence and concrete results to demonstrate that agriculture can be part of the solution to the climate crisis and the loss of biodiversity. It will also emphasize that agriculture is a key sector for ensuring global food and nutritional security, generating foreign exchange, as well as creating jobs and fostering retention in rural areas.

Over the course of two weeks, until November 21, the pavilion will host high-level events with the participation of the private sector, agricultural officials from governments across the continent, members of rural communities, academics and representatives of international agencies.

This will be the fourth consecutive time that IICA’s pavilion and partners will be present at the Conference.

IICA previously installed its own pavilion at COP 27 in Egypt in 2022, COP 28 in the United Arab Emirates in 2023, and COP 29 in Azerbaijan last year.

By participating in COP, a forum with significant influence on the global public agenda, IICA is consolidating its role as a catalyst for collective action between countries of the Americas and driving the integration of efforts to position the region’s agriculture sector in discussions on the future of production methods and ways to protect the planet and its natural resources.

The goal is to show the world that agriculture in the Americas makes a critical contribution to global food security and is capable of combining productivity, sustainability and resilience by transforming technical knowledge and cooperation into concrete actions to combat the climate crisis.

Agriculture is the only activity that can capture carbon in the soil while producing, thereby contributing to reducing total greenhouse gas emissions.

Showcasing technologies and cooperation

Through its partnership with the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA) and the Brazilian government, IICA will install its pavilion at AgriZone, a thematic area parallel to COP30 that will bring together hundreds of initiatives that focus on sustainable agriculture, food security and the decarbonization of production.

AgriZone will be a major showcase for technologies, science and international cooperation focused on sustainable agriculture and the fight against hunger in the context of climate change. It will host about 400 events, including panel discussions and exhibitions, as well as demonstrations of technological solutions and low-carbon agro-environmental practices.

AgriZone will be coordinated by EMBRAPA, a public research institution that has played a crucial role in transforming Brazil into an agrifood powerhouse in recent decades and has collaborated closely with IICA in various projects.

“AgriZone symbolizes the hemisphere’s commitment to an agriculture sector that produces, preserves and drives economic development and social inclusion in our countries. COP30 provides an opportunity to demonstrate that the countryside plays a leading role and is a critical part of the solution to the challenges facing humanity today and in the future”, said IICA Director General Manuel Otero.

In addition to having its own pavilion at AgriZone, IICA will participate in official COP30 panels in Belém do Pará and will organize side events with influential multilateral organizations that are its strategic partners, such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and CAF-Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean.

These events will address key issues for agricultural sustainability, such as the bioeconomy, green funding, climate adaptation and governance, regenerative agriculture, the role of biofuels in the energy transition, and sustainable livestock farming.

This will enable IICA to strengthen its commitment to science, innovation, and international cooperation as fundamental pillars for strengthening food systems in the continent and fostering economic, social and environmental sustainability.

IICA’s presence at COP30 will also give continuity to the hemispheric agenda consolidated during the Conference of Ministers of Agriculture of the Americas 2025, held recently in Brasilia.

The conference reflected the agency’s role as a technical and political coordinator of sustainable agriculture in the Americas, which will be ratified in Belém do Pará.
