From June 15 to 17, 2025, Canada will host the G7 Leader’s Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, a high-level event that will attract global attention and bring together the leaders of the world’s most developed economies. However, the summit’s agenda does not include discussions on agriculture or food security, despite the critical role these sectors play in the economic, social, and environmental development of the Americas.

In response, IICA’s office in Canada, with the support of the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), and the collaboration of many Canadian and international partners in the agri-food sector, is convening the 2025 Americas Agriculture & Food Security Forum, to be held at Olds College, Alberta, on the same dates of the G7 Leader’s Summit. This event will serve as a positive and inclusive space for dialogue, bringing together government officials, industry representatives, academics, development experts and students, to explore solutions that enhance agriculture, food security, sustainability, innovation, and trade.

IFAD joins as the forum’s main partner and sponsor, bringing its extensive expertise and resources to enhance the event’s impact. The collaboration between IICA and IFAD underscores their shared commitment to agricultural and rural development in the Americas, with a particular focus on food security, environmental sustainability, and the well-being of small-scale producers and industry.

This forum aims to establish itself as a key space for dialogue and action, driving innovative solutions and regional cooperation strategies to address current challenges and seize opportunities in the agri-food sector. By convening leaders and experts at a strategic moment, the event will contribute to raising awareness of the importance of agriculture and food security for the sustainable development of the Americas and the world.
