IICA to organize virtual dialogues to bolster the position of the agriculture sector of the Americas ahead of the Food Systems Summit

The meetings will be organized under the banner of the Summit Dialogues, requested by the organizers, as a means of stimulating discussion prior to the global forum. Ministers of Agriculture of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay agree to coordinate actions ahead of the UN Summit and to support the reelection of the IICA Director General

The ministers expressed their support in a meeting of the Southern Agricultural Council (CAS, in Spanish). They also requested that IICA prepare a report on the sustainability of livestock production systems in the region and agreed to mobilize “all technical and diplomatic resources” to ensure that the voice of South America is heard at the UN Food Systems Summit. The Director General of IICA offered to establish linkages between the Andean Region, Caribbean, Central America and North America to help unify their position.

PROCAGICA supports female participation in Salvadoran coffee production

María de Los Angeles Alvarado, coop member and program beneficiary, is undertaking key activities that relate to the quality of the coffee. She is putting into practice the lessons learned through the initiative, such as selective picking of the bean, which she then sends to be processed into parchment coffee, in order to obtain a better price.

The Minister of Agriculture of the Dominican Republic underscored the key role of the sector in the recovery and boosting of this country’s economy

Minister Limber Cruz announced a record production of beans, rice, vegetables, tomatoes and onions, as well as cooperation actions with Costa Rica to modernize the coffee industry. "We will be self-sufficient in coffee and we will export this product again," he said. Major support was also given to the fruit growing sector.
