International Development Research Centre (IDRC) hosted an event to celebrate International Women’s Day on Tuesday, March 8th, 2016.
Ottawa. IICA Canada was pleased to participate in the event which showcased Canadian and international researchers who have conducted studies on empowering women. There were two panels featuring seven researchers from Colombia, Mexico, Kenya, the United States, and Canada. One session examined the link between childcare and women’s empowerment on studies conducted in India, Kenya, and Canada.
The second session covered studies related to overcoming violence against women and the issues related to communities, legal protection, and crime prevention. The audience was able to join the conversation during the sessions remarks on both the barriers women face as well as the solutions that address the issues. Anju Dhillon, Parliamentary Secretary for Status of Women, in the Government of Canada, closed the session with some concluding remarks.
IDRC’s mandate is to support, and conduct research into the problems of the developing regions of the world and into the means for applying and adapting scientific, technical, and other knowledge to the economic and social advancement of those regions. IDRC’s program results relating to their agriculture and food security program benefit countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
