IICA and the OAS signed MoU for Renewable Energy Solution

Georgetown, Guyana. The IICA Delegation in Guyana and The General Secretary of the Organization of American States in collaboration with the Guyana Power & Light Inc. signed a Memorandum of Understanding to implement a renewable energy project at our office. This official signing took place at the Ministry of Public Infrastructure Board Room on Wednesday, April 10, 2019.

The IICA Delegation in Guyana and The General Secretary of the Organization of American States in collaboration with the Guyana Power & Light Inc. signed a Memorandum of Understanding to implement a renewable energy project at our office. This official signing took place at the Ministry of Public Infrastructure Board Room on Wednesday, April 10, 2019.

IICA Delegation in Guyana is proud to partner with the Guyana Power & Light, CARICOM and the OAS to contribute and participate in Guyana’s Green State Development Strategy, Mr. Wilmot Garnett stated.

Mr. Jean Ricot Dormeus, OAS Representative commended GPL’s CEO, Mr. Albert Gordon on his enthusiasm and commitment in seeing the formation of this MoU a reality today. Mr. Dormeus noted that, this initiative will enrich and propel Guyana faster into the Green State Development Strategy and the OAS is a proud partner of this initiative.

Further, Mr. Garnett said that with the signing of this MoU, we will realize renewable energy sources and be more energy efficient in our operations. Also, the project will later support agro-processors in rural communities to have reliable and affordable energy to be more competitive, expanding the local and export markets. Increasing rural wealth and improving lives, he added.

Hon. Min. of Agriculture, Noel Holder, said that the importance of alternative energy in the agriculture sector is much needed and Guyanese of all sectors including those of rural communities will see the benefits of renewable energy.

Hon. Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson stated that this pilot project speared headed by the leadership of GPL and the first stakeholders will be the transformation of the utility sector in Guyana.
