Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, Colombia, Canada, and Peru have already held their national events in the lead-up to the 2025 Digital Agriculture Week

The 2025 Digital Agriculture Week will take place at IICA Headquarters in San José, Costa Rica, from September 22 to 25.

San José, 18 July 2025 – The Digitalization of Agrifood Systems Program of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) has launched the celebration of Digital Agriculture Days across different countries in the Americas. These technical and strategic meetings, organized by the IICA delegations, seek to mobilize national digital innovation ecosystems in agriculture and strengthen the capacities needed to transform agrifood systems.

These activities are part of the preparation for the 2025 Digital Agriculture Week, to be held at IICA Headquarters in San José, Costa Rica, from September 22 to 25. A total of 15 national events will take place. The discussions and agreements emerging from each of these events will be systematized and presented during the Week. In addition, AgTech startups proposed by countries that have held national Digital Agriculture Days will be invited to participate in the regional event, along with others selected by an international jury.

“Digital transformation requires coordination, knowledge, and action. These events are tangible spaces to identify barriers, share experiences, and coordinate solutions that bring technology to the service of producers”, said Federico Bert, Manager of IICA’s Digitalization of Agrifood Systems Program.

To date, events have been held in Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, Colombia, Canada, and Peru, in both virtual and in-person formats. These gatherings have brought together ministries of agriculture, technical agencies, and AgTech companies, establishing a dynamic space for dialogue and exchange.

Later in July and throughout August, additional Digital Agriculture Days will be held in Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Dominica, Guatemala, Paraguay, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Uruguay, expanding the initiative’s reach across the region.

A recent example was Peru’s Digital Agriculture Day, which gathered 179 professionals from SENASA and other institutions. Peru held its national event under the theme “Digital technologies for more traceable and sustainable organic production”, with a practical focus on tools such as drones, satellite sensors, and digital platforms.

In three thematic sessions, IICA specialists and international experts presented solutions applied to the inspection and monitoring of farms, including the use of drones (Indigo Drones), satellite remote sensing (NASA Harvest), and blockchain and traceability innovations such as uCrop.it, Origino, and InfoAgro.Global.

The event responded to a specific request from SENASA’s Subdirectorate for Organic Production, in light of new international standards such as EU Regulation 2023/1115 on deforestation-free products. More than 140 participants remained connected from start to finish, and over 40 technical questions from the audience were systematized to serve as input for future training.

“Digital Agriculture Days help build concrete capacities, showcase technologies, and spark key dialogues between public institutions, startups, and academia. That’s our approach to responsible and effective digitalization”, concluded Carlos Ruíz, specialist with the Digitalization Program.
