San Jose, 19 June 2020 (IICA). The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and Brazil’s Canal Rural, with the support of the Canal Rural in Argentina, AgrotendenciaTV and Costa Rica’s Canal UCR  are hereby announcing the broadcast of the program “Alimento para Todos” (Food for All), a platform to turn the spotlight on food and nutritional security, while seeking to educate and promote safety  for rural producers and food industry professionals in Latin America and the Caribbean.

With the structure and production of a live super event, the first edition of the program will showcase 20 artistes from all regions of the Americas, who will present exclusive musical performances.

The aim of the project is to provide greater recognition of these workers, while supplying information and tips on COVID-19 prevention measures. The program, which will also include messages on food security and supplies, through cooperation among countries, will represent a historic initiative for the Americas.

Adriana Calcanhotto, Roberta Sá, Mart’nália, Gilberto Gil, Carlinhos Brown, Soledad Villamil, Gustavo Santaolalla, León Gieco, Guadalupe Urbina, Lila Downs, Luis Enrique Mejía Godoy and Nano Stern are some of the big names slated to appear during the event.

Director General of IICA, Manuel Otero, stressed that, “The Latin American and Caribbean region has a vast number of workers who are working tirelessly to produce food for people throughout the world. At this very difficult time, we must recognize the efforts of those who are working and risking their own welfare to produce, transport and sell food, ensuring that food reaches the population”.

The partnership between IICA and the TV stations, with sponsorship from Bayer, PicPay and Croplife, is expected to attract an audience of 50 million viewers across Latin America.

Júlio Cargnino, President of Canal Rural in Brazil, remarked that “This historic effort by the major specialist channels, in support of Latin America’s agriculture sector, will demonstrate to the entire region the power and importance of food production. In addition to paying tribute to the heroes of the land, we want to encourage all of them to continue producing, while staying safe and healthy”.

Viewers in Brazil may contribute to the cause by making donations via the Pic Pay app, which is a safe and practical tool. Funds collected will be used to purchase safety gear, such as gloves, boots, masks and sanitizing gel for producers in small rural communities in Brazil’s Northeast region.
