Sitting on a panel with agriculture sector leaders at the Toronto Global Forum, Manuel Otero, the Director General of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), called for productivity shortcomings to be addressed.

Experiences in the United States, Germany, Colombia, Spain, Japan, South Africa, Malaysia and the European Union will provide a frame of reference for the development of methodological guidelines and analyses. 

The Ministers of Agriculture of Chile, Mexico and Peru will meet in March 2019 to sign a joint work agreement within the framework of the Pacific Alliance. The joint efforts will focus on sustainable development, rural well-being and agricultural trade.

In 2018, IICA initiated the process to become certified by the Ecological Blue Flag Program under the eco-diplomacy category, by adopting measures to utilize resources in an efficient manner and encouraging other institutions to join the initiative.

Victor Villalobos, Mexico’s new Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER) met with Manuel Otero, Director General of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), during the latter’s visit to attend the inauguration of the new President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) signed an ambitious cooperation agreement to foster public and private investment in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors, and, in turn, improve the quality of life in rural areas across the continent.
