The Director General of the IICA, Manuel Otero, attended this year’s event, which included the presentation of the “Agriculture for Peace” project – a platform created to spur collective action, the forging of partnerships and collective programs aimed at furthering the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: the eradication of hunger.

The session entitled “Food Governance in an Unprecedented Era” discussed how to guarantee an adequate functioning of the agri-food systems in times of simultaneous crises that have severe consequences for individual countries and for the world.

Lorena Valdez, of Ecuador, and Haydée Anccasi, of Peru, recounted their experiences in a roundtable discussion organized by IICA, AECID and EFE to commemorate International Day of Rural Women.

Organized by the World Food Prize (WFP) Foundation and set to be held in Des Moines, Iowa (USA), the activity consists of a series of discussion sessions. Leaders and experts from across the globe will meet to explore solutions and contribute ideas aimed at tackling the growing challenges weighing on global food security.

During a virtual forum organized by the two institutions within the framework of the Borlaug International Dialogue—considered the premier conference in the world on global agriculture—experts underscored the need for countries in the region to develop state policies on this topic.

The institutions signed a commitment that includes initiatives to be implemented in the short-term following a visit by IICA’s delegation, headed by Director General Manuel Otero, to NMSU’s campus.
