These declarations of support were made during a virtual meeting of the Special Advisory Commission on Management Issues (SACMI), an advisory body of the Director General of IICA to strengthen the operating capacity of the agency specialized in agricultural and rural development.

The event, which will be held at IICA Headquarters in San José, Costa Rica, until May 19, began with a roundtable discussion among high-level policymakers.

Maca is an indigenous plant of Peru that dates back thousands of years. It has been called a “super food”, given that since the time of the Incas it has been highly valued and has multiple uses, from boosting fertility to fighting insomnia.

The countries are preparing draft Central American Technical Regulations that will benefit producers by promoting more sustainable practices for bioinput use.

The agreement was reached between Manuel Otero, Director General of IICA, and Yasmine Fouad, Minister of the Environment of the North Africa nation.
