Édgar De León urged his counterparts in the hemisphere to participate in the 2023 Conference of Ministers of Agriculture of the Americas, which will take place at the beginning of October in Costa Rica.

The event made it possible to disseminate the work of the public and private sectors of various countries in the region that are promoting and implementing a variety of practices aimed at improving productivity and agricultural production in a sustainable manner. In doing so, account is taken of each country’s specific environmental, ecological, productive and development circumstances, in order to contribute to national and international food security, rural development and social inclusion.

The initiatives, agreements and improvements must be carefully designed and focus on the well-being of the region's farmers, so that positive actions are reflected in the daily lives of the farmers.

The summit’s key purpose is to create a partnership among the countries of the Americas to successfully address challenges related to food security and environmental changes.

The Conference of Ministers will include a meeting of the Inter-American Board of Agriculture (IABA), IICA’s highest governing body. The Board is made up of the 34 Member States of the Institute, an agency of the Inter-American System specializing in agricultural and rural development.

The approach aims to sustainably balance and optimize the health of people, animals and ecosystems.
