San José, March 1, 2024 (IICA). The 41st Traditional Foods and Tourism Fair, an event organized by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and open to the entire Costa Rican community, will take place on Saturday, March 9 at the international agency’s Headquarters in San Isidro de Coronado.

Most of the proceeds from the event will go towards improving the living conditions of senior citizens and students across the canton.

The fair is organized by IICA´s Community Outreach Association (APC-IICA), a non-profit entity that has been providing the people of Coronado with solutions in the areas of health, education, culture, and general well-being since IICA established its Headquarters in Vásquez de Coronado in the 1970s.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at IICA Headquarters, located 600 meters northeast of the Ipís intersection, next to the Costa Rican Social Security Fund’s Integrated Health Center.

The Fair will feature typical dishes, crafts and tourist information from more than 30 IICA member countries of the Americas. There will be cultural events, an international bazaar, various music and a car exhibition. More than 2,000 people from all over the country are expected to visit.

General admission will cost 2,000 colones, with free entry for children under 12 years of age and people over 70 years of age. Meal prices will start at 1,000 colones.

Social outreach

Since 2019, the Association has donated computers to students in Coronado and neighboring communities. In addition, boys and girls from local schools and the surrounding areas of the canton have benefited from robotics courses facilitated by the APC-IICA.

“Many young people have received two-year English courses that have allowed them to reach a professional level in the language. Initiatives have also been implemented aimed at reinforcing healthy eating and assisting Coronado schools in carrying out their mission of education and training,” said Amanda Fernández, President of IICA´s Community Outreach Association.

As well as being used to continue to fund these projects, part of the monies raised at the International Traditional Foods and Tourism Fair on March 9 will be donated for sustainable kitchen gardens for senior citizens at the Coronado Nursing Home and students at local primary and secondary schools.
